Tip of the Day:
Limit your airplane travels. It is wiser to opt for destinations that are closer to home, ones that you can reach by car or, better yet by public transportation (train or bus), since the plane emits 19 times more greenhouse gases than the train.

THE GREAT CANADIAN SHORELINE CLEANUP

Shoreline Cleanup 2008: For more information on the garbage collected, to see pictures of the cleanup and for the full list of winners, please click here.

From September 20th to the 28th 2008, protect a waterway by participating in the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup!

Each year during the third week of September, SOS Planète participates in this Great cleanup along with thousands of volunteers from all over Canada to clean the shores of clutter and debris and to protect our waterways — and YOU can participate too!

How? Simple: You have to register as a participant on the program's website and sign up for a cleanup in your region. Or if you are in the West Island, come join SOS Planète at our cleanup of the Rivière à l'Orme, the last remaining river on the island of Montreal. SOS Planète has been cleaning this river since 2006 and during the two cleanups we have found phenomenal amounts of waste, and the work is far from over. This, even though the city of Montreal has declared this ecosystem to be one of the richest in terms of biodiversity on the island of Montreal. Come join us at the Rivière à l'Orme and contribute to the restoration and safeguard of our natural heritage!

Last year alone, more than 52 000 people participated in Canada and removed 87,400 kg of litter from our shorelines. The 2008 edition is shaping up to be even better, so hurry to register and join us to make our environment healthier!
