SOS Planète is an environmental non-profit organisation registered since April 2004. The organisation aims to bring awareness of environmental issues to the citizens, institutions and businesses while also providing them with ecological alternatives. To do that, SOS Planète is involved at different levels in order to create and support a wide variety of environmental activities in the West-Island in partnership with other community organisations.

HISTORY

During the 80's, the West-Island witnessed exponential growth; as part of the richest agricultural land on the island of Montreal, its face was transformed permanently in only a few years. In the 90's, with an ever increasing population density, the constraints of urban sprawl started to weigh on the region; constant traffic on the larger arteries, visual pollution due to poor waste management plans, reduction in the quality of life and the disappearance of larges areas of natural spaces.

In front of increasing environmental issues both on the local and international fronts, SOS Planète was born out of a lack of environmental action and awareness within the community. Since, the organisation has not ceased to work with the community thanks to the growing interest that the citizens provide.
